Guatemala: The Mystical Maya
The Mayan culture, with its misunderstood and largely forgotten empire, had its challenges. Like many empires, it ultimately collapsed due to the impact its economy had on the environment. But for centuries, it fostered spiritual and earthly values and practices that ensured humans, animals and plants coexisted in harmony not only with one another, but with the entire cosmos. Learning about the reciprocal relationships between humans and the Mayan deities was as common practice as it is to learn to count or read for our children today.

Cross Cultural Journeys invite you to join us next fall on our journey Guatemala: The Mystical Maya (November 6-18, 2018) as we take a deep dive into this fascinating and beautiful land and culture.
By joining this journey you will support Centro Taa' P'it, a Mayan-founded intercultural learning center, with an after school program using both 21st century technology and environmental education rooted in Mayan traditions and culture.

Norte Camino de Santiago Coastal Trek
Come discover the mystery of the Camino less traveled, the 500+ mile sojourn from Irun to Santiago along the picturesque northern coast of Spain that makes up the Camino Norte. Explore charming historical seaside towns, breathtaking coastal trails, white sandy beaches, and walks through fragrant Eucalyptus and Pine Tree forests as you experience this once in a lifetime trek.
The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is one of the historical Christian Pilgrimage routes from the Middle Ages. The most popular trail of the Camino de Santiago is the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago. This popular trail attracts thousands of people from around the globe with varying cultures, languages, and belief systems.
With the growing popularity of the Camino Frances, today's pilgrims are looking to branch out to less crowded trails that also lead to Santiago. This northernmost route was used throughout history when the Camino Frances was too dangerous to walk. Today it is one of many official routes to Santiago used by those who love the ocean and those who prefer a more intimate, less crowded journey. Come find out about the less traveled Camino Norte from 3X Camino Pilgrim, Sheri Goodwin of Transformational Journeys and start planning your trip today. You will learn everything you need to know to be successful on this incredible adventure!

Fair Trade Travel in Chile
It was a simple moment, but one that defines our connection with this often misunderstood and mistreated country. We sat with a Mapuche family as they recounted the daily struggles of being an indigenous minority group in a country that often doesn't value their ancient culture. A simple question was asked: "How can we support you?" The response profound: "Tell our story. Share our culture. Bring people to sit with us and listen to our tales." The struggle of the Mapuche people to establish a voice in our modern world is just one of the many stories that plays out in Chile. Let us guide you as we share the opportunities to connect with these and many other unique and beautiful cultures across Chile. Whether deep in the high mountains of Patagonia or walking the wind-swept dunes of the Atacama Desert, Chile holds treasures beyond imagination. This is also the reason why it is paramount for travel and tourism to act as a partner to local and indigenous people instead of consuming and degrading their fragile way of life. Chile is calling. Will you answer?

Le Puy Camino de Santiago
The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is one of the historical Christian Pilgrimage routes from the Middle Ages. The most popular trail of the Camino de Santiago is the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago, Spain. This popular trail attracts thousands of people from around the globe who have varying cultures, languages, and belief systems. However, there are many other routes to Santiago.
The Le Puy Camino route also known as the Via Podensis or Chemin de St. Jacques de Compostelle, is a beautiful 457 mile pilgrimage. This route is becoming a popular trail with the local French people and veteran pilgrims who have already accomplished the Camino Frances. Starting in the breathtaking town of Le Puy en Velay, the route threads its way through volcanic hills of the Velay region. Trekkers traverse farmlands with deep valleys and rolling hills, cross high plateaus and finally arrive at the foothills of the Pyrenees in the remarkable town of St. Jean Pied de Port. This adventure will take you through many of the most beautiful historic villages in France.
Preview this lovely hike and learn the "How To's" with Sheri Goodwin and Marcia Shaver, who both walked this way in the spring and summer of 2016.

Balkans: Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovenia
Rising dramatically above the Adriatic and Mediterranean, the Balkan Alps form a dramatic backdrop along the Dalmatian Coast of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Wildland Adventures Director, Kurt Kutay, will share his recent explorations down cobblestone streets of red-tiled villages, ambles among castles of feudal dynasties, and hikes in beautiful national parks. Travels through this region easily combine the mainland and the sea island-hopping on a traditional gulet to small ports of call and isolated anchorages surrounded by ancient ruins among pine forests, olive groves and vineyards. From the capital cities of Lublijana, Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Sarajevo, Kurt will share highlights and strategies from avoiding the crowds in popular sites, to discovering the magical, off-the-beaten track adventures into the hinterlands of the Istrian Peninsula, the Julian Alps, and the Via Dinarica Trail across the Western Balkans leading to hidden villages and farms, the source of truffles, cheese, honey, prosciutto, lamb and local wine varietals like Zinfandel that originated outside of Split.
